Moving!

Sorry, guys. I’m moving my blog.
Rather than wordpress.com, it’ll be on my own hosting. We’ll see how that goes.
For now, you can get there via http://www.kiwistitch.com

Alternatively, evilkiwi.com, gamerstitch.com, and nerdstitch.com will also all point to my blog.

Still working out the kinks of the new layout, but I think I like it better. Let me know what you think.

Star Trek Shot Glasses

Right, so… I needed to stay up as late as possible tonight to re-adjust to the midnight shift. I accidentally fell asleep super-early yesterday and messed up my sleep schedule.
Thus, I’ve been working on some projects that I’d been putting off.

You see, I bought these shot glasses at Goodwill the other day, in the hopes of at some point etching something cool onto them.

Well, I’ve been in a very Star Trek mood lately, so I decided to etch some combadge logos onto them.

Let me know what you think!

Because of the small nature of shotglasses, I had to freehand them. I did my usual scotch taping first, then drew on them in pencil ’til I got the shape more or less right before cutting out the tape.

There’s a few imperfections here and there where the cream snuck under the tape, but oh well. I still like how they came out.

Don’t forget, there’s a how-to guide on how I do glass etching here.

Secret Project Finished + Pattern!

Remember that last post I made? Well, I’ve finished the stitching for it. I still need to decide how to finish the project, but I’ll probably just end up framing it. Anyway, as promised, I’m posting a finished picture and including the pattern for it in this post.

Secret project

Remember I mentioned I’ve been working on a stitch?
Well I just finished the most time consuming part of it. Now, the stitch I’ve been working for is going to be for my friends’ birthday.
So if you know me in real life, and happen to be born on August 29th, you may not want to keep reading.

If you know the person I’m referring to, you may not want to mention it to them, either.

If word gets out, whatever. (Heck, the tags might give it away) They’ll like it either way.

Anyway. Moving on. Let’s find out what it is…

WIPs/UFOs/Stash pictures.

So… I was reorganizing my stash earlier today, only to realize just how many WIPs I have laying about.  Usually the patterns that I make myself I end up finishing.
But for some reason. the patterns/kits I pick up end up as UFOs (UnFinished Objects)

So I snapped a few pictures, and thought I’d put them up. Maybe you guys can make me feel bad enough about them to actually get around to finishing them. Most of them aren’t as ‘nerdy’ as my usual works, which is probably why I get distracted. Regardless, here they are:

Most of you are familiar with the Mighty Samurai by now, if you’ve looked into my older entries at all. Here’s a more recent progress pic to prove that I do work on him… occasionally.

Warning: Pic-heavy post!

Star Trek Uniform

So, I’m pretty much done with the uniform. I have to learn how to use makeup in an effort to not only get the ears to blend better, but also how to apply vulcan eyebrows. In the meantime, here’s some awesome shots by my friend John Bob

Portal Woodburning

So! A few updates.
First; my costume is nearly complete. I’m just waiting on my combadge to arrive in the mail, then I’ll be getting proper pictures of it.

Second; my current stitching project is coming along nicely, and I should have that done in a week or so.

Last; I found another closet project that I’ll likely never get around to finishing, but would like to show you regardless.

So! Long story short, a friend of mine enjoys woodburning. She makes a lot of neat/awesome things. One day, a couple of us bought some random wood from the craft store and decided to try it. Several blisters later, I had one side of a portal companion cube done.

That being said, I probably won’t get around to doing the other 5 sides, or finishing it. But it still kinda looks cool on my shelf. Maybe I’ll end up just painting it so it doesn’t look horribly unfinished. Who knows?

Costuming

So, I’m definitely working on a cross stitch pattern in the background that I think you guys will love. Don’t worry, I’ll be posting the pattern with it, too. ;)

But I’ve been temporarily distracted with some costuming. I found a plain blue dress that simply needed to be modified into a Star Trek Original Series style dress. The bottom doesn’t have quite the same flow as the original Star Trek dresses, but I think I’ll survive.

My first task was to sew on some rank. It’s actually two different ribbons carefully sewn together and onto the sleeve. By hand. Thus why it’s a little uneven. Regardless, It looks good. So far I’ve only done one sleeve. And I’m still debating whether to go back and promote myself to commander. It takes a lot of work to sew on. >.< And I certainly don’t know how I’d do the dashed line of Lieutenant Commander without driving myself insane.

We’ll see what happens when I finish the line on the other sleeve.

Wow!

So, you guys clearly love patterns. My daily hit count has basically doubled from the usual. As a thank you, I’ve put together another pattern for you guys.
The Disgaea succubus I made forever ago.

Enjoy! And let me know if you guys have any requests!

Free Patterns!

Great news! I dug through my old files and found a few of the patterns I’ve created over the years.
Most of my patterns seem to be long gone, but I put what I could find in a page here at my blog.
Any new ones I create will be added in the future.

I’ve also gone back and put links into their respective entries, just in case.
Here’s the link! (It’s also on the right hand column if you ever need it again.)
